Commitment
What actually is a commitment, how is it initiated, what are the pre-requisites of making a commitment all these questions are not new to most of us but sometimes before making a commitment, it is necessary to remind ourselves of these in order to improve the health of our commitment.
Starting off with what a commitment actually is, a commitment is a mutual understanding between two or multiple parties. It is often a said promise or an unsaid promise. A commitment is initiated when one party willingly, without any pressure, decides to associate itself with another party in terms of a relationship, a service, or a bond. The life of a human in its entirety is a commitment between him and his creator. The core of this commitment between the creator and man is of service.
A relationship without commitment is like a car without an engine. No matter how beautiful that car is from the outside, it will not be able to provide you any help in a time of need. Commitment is the one factor that can take a man, an organization, a relationship, a love to the hallmark of excellence. Now that we’ve clearly understood the definition, importance, and value of a commitment, let’s reflect on our lives under our knowledge. Where, how and who am I committed with at this point in life?
Let’s talk about the commitment between a man and the Creator. How can a man be committed to the creator? This is something most of us find difficult because neither the creator is visible to us, nor do we take into account all of the blessings bestowed upon us by him. Our commitment to our creator does not require a lot from us. He wants us to remember Him, he wants us to value the promises that we have made unto him and to abstain from that which displeases Him.
Think for a moment, if we love someone from the core of our heart, we’re committed to them. We respect their likes and dislikes, try to please them with our actions, and find new ways to please them. Although the Creator is unseen, his likes and dislikes are clearly mentioned and the best part is we are rewarded in each case. If we abstain from what he dislikes, we are rewarded. If we perform the actions he likes, we are rewarded. In short commitment to the Creator is the easiest.
Let’s look at some log files of the commitment of a man to the creator. A beautiful example of commitment is when Hazrat Abdullah bin Hazafa (R.A.) was caught by the Roman Emperor and he was ordered to be thrown into a fire by the emperor. When Abdullah bin Hazafa(R.A.) started crying the emperor laughed and mocked his faith to which he replied I’m crying because I have only one life, if I had a hundred lives, I would’ve laid those hundred lives down for Allah.
SubhanAllah this is the level of commitment that we should be having towards our affairs, our goals, our lives, our Lord. If we show commitment in our daily lives, we will surely leave behind our names in history books and be remembered forever. The choice lies in your hands.
